Competition "Every Drop Matters Project" announced in context of Global Joint Project of UNDP and Coca Cola Company

UNDP jointly with “BonAqua” announce national competition for “Every Drop Matters” Project among the eligible communities.
The Objective of the project is to identify a natural spring, located in the immediate vicinity of the prime users, and with joint efforts and under the support of UNDP to rehabilitate and to create a recreational area, thus demonstrating willingness to join the initiative on preserving and protecting natural water resources and environment. In the framework of the project it is envisaged to implement a number of educational events, which will involve local communities representing all cities, towns and villages throughout Ukraine. School communities are highly encouraged to participate.
Rules of Competition

The Objective of the project is to identify a natural spring, located in the immediate vicinity of the prime users, and with joint efforts and under the support of UNDP to rehabilitate and to create a recreational area, thus demonstrating willingness to join the initiative on preserving and protecting natural water resources and environment.
In the framework of the project it is envisaged to implement a number of educational events, which will involve local communities representing all cities, towns and villages throughout Ukraine. School communities are highly encouraged to participate.
The Project is initiated with the aim to:
·       Revitalize and preserve natural water resource and environment;
·       Involve local communities into the Project thus promoting self-help approach to implementing important initiatives;
·       Raise awareness among the youth about the importance of preserving and protecting natural water resources and environment.
“Every Drop Matters” Project competition will be held in two stages open for local communities representing all cities, tows and villages throughout Ukraine. Each local community will be provided with the assistance through UNDP supported projects: “Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme” and joint UNDP and European Union Programme “Community Based Approach to Local Development”.
 
Terms of Competition
 
Round I
If you are willing to participate in the announced competition, you are encouraged to take part in the 1st Round.Send to UNDP Community Letter, signed by not less then 20 community representatives, which would provide the explanation for the following:
·       Why the spring, located in the immediate vicinity of your community, requires rehabilitation (explain in 2-3 passages);
·       Is there a legend connected with the spring? If so, please, provide it in a written form;
·       Provide your vision of the rehabilitated spring (2-3 passages);
·       Describe the usage of the spring after rehabilitation;
·       Describe how you will maintain the rehabilitated spring and keep it in the decent condition;
·       Provide cost estimation for the rehabilitation of the spring. Please, consider the required elements, which have to be included into the project: beautified access to the spring, paved path, memorable stone, bench and refused bin.
·       Provide Letter of Commitment regarding cost sharing -10% of the total project budget has to be covered by the local counterpart. On average, total budget of the spring rehabilitation is up to 50 000UAH, which will be provided by UNDP to the successful applicants of the 2nd Round as grant-funds. The amount of funding will be identified on a case-to-case basis depending upon project site and project documents;
·       Identify contact person from the community, provide his contact information: phone (home, office and cell phone numbers), fax (if available), e-mail (if available) and detailed mail address;
·       Appropriate legal form that allows the community to receive fund (grant).
·        
Please, attach to the Community Letter 4-5 display pictures of the spring, which needs rehabilitation, along with a Letter of Certification, stating that this spring is not on private property. In case of submitting by a community of more than one application, the one which complies most precisely with the competition requirements will be selected.

Final approval of the community projects will be made by a National Project Selection Committee, consisting of 2 representatives from UNDP/Ukraine, CBA Project Manager, Coca-Cola Ukraine representatives. Based on the selection process, the successful candidates for the 2nd Round of the competition will be identified. The decision of the National Project Selection Committee is final and not disputable.
The successful applicants of the 1st Round of the competition will be informed personally and the results will be posted on the web-sites: www.cba.org.ua and http://msdp.undp.org.ua
 
Round II
Participation in the 2nd Round of the competition involves providing the set of documents as given in the List of Documents (it is available at the web-sites: www.cba.org.ua and http://msdp.undp.org.ua). The List of Documents will be provided to the successful applicant by the representative of joint UNDP and European Union Programme “Community Based Approach to Local Development”.
The 2nd Round of the competition will start on 23.02.2009 and will close on 31.03.2009.
The results of the competition will be announced by the National Project Selection Committee through www.cba.org.ua and http://msdp.undp.org.ua web-sites no later than 6.04.2009. The successful applicants will be also informed personally via mail or telephone.
Opening of the rehabilitated springs will start in the second half of May 2009. On successful completion of rehabilitation work, grand opening of the springs with broad engagement of the community residents will be conducted.
After Grand openings, one best performing community will be selected by the Project initiators. A special recognition will be administered to 15 pupils or students of this community - a study tour to Kiev Water Museum, UN house and Coca Cola Company.
