June 29, Litochky (Kyiv Region): In the neighborhood of Litochky village opening of spring renewed within the framework of project "Every drop matters" took place. EDM - general regional initiative of UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Coca-Cola Company - spring took place. Within the framework of the project local community cleared territory around the spring and spring’s head, carried out strengthening of soil around and made a recreation area alongside.
"Every drop matters" is an international project. The project’s overarching goal is to increase access to natural water resources and to promote responsible water resource management by outreach and awareness raising activities. A project is planned for 5 years period and began in 2007 with pilot projects in Turkey, Croatia, Romania, Kazakhstan and six countries upon the Black sea region. The successful beginning of pilot projects inspired partners for development of new projects in Ukraine and Armenia in 2008. In Ukraine "Every drop matters" is the joint project of United Nations Development Program and Coca-Cola in Ukraine (supported by BonAqua TM).
The aim of project in Ukraine is to renew and protect natural sources, develop responsible water control and also create recreation areas around them, actively attracting local communities. Organizers of "Every drop matters" first of all aim to assist development of ecological culture, reporting information about maintenance and defence of environment to public. In Ukraine project began in 2009 with support of initiatives of village communities.
In June 2012 the current stage of project, during that in a collaboration from municipal power 24 local initiatives were realized for the improvement of local standards of life - communities were supported in 14 areas in Ukraine.
Global experience of UNDP in relation to development of local communities and providing successful partnership between the representatives of private business and public successfully works in Ukraine, said in welcome remarks Olivier Adam, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative. "During many years we work in the different regions of Ukraine where applied based on local development at active voice of citizens approaches. The important component of this approach is that within the framework of its introduction abilities of local communities and local authorities to effective local self-government, by the consequence of that getting better forming in them of sense of self- authorizing - he said. In addition, UNDP convinced that when Ukrainian communities realize responsibility for the own fate they are able to use the collective force for helping themselves.
President of Eurasia and Africa group, The Coca-Cola Company Ahmet Bozer mentioned: "Every drop matters” is the unique program between UNDP and The Coca-Cola Company. Aim of this project in Ukraine - to develop responsible attitude towards water". Ahmet Bozer reminded about priorities and ecological strategies of company which concentrated on such aspects as: water quality and water maintenance; management of hard wastes; preventing of contamination of air. "We support this program with brand BonAqua - one of the most known brands at the Ukrainian market of bottled water and reliable partner in socially responsible projects.
An educational component is also an important part of project "Every drop matters". In the same time renewing of sources serves as instrument of achieving this aim. Within the framework of project the special training program for teachers and schoolchildren was worked out. The main topic of program is forming of responsible attitude towards water resources among a rising generation. The number of attracted school communities exceeded planned indexes. Training program covered 383 teachers for whom were conducted in 16 municipalities and 352 schoolchildren from 6 municipalities and 12 villages (14 areas of Ukraine).
Other participants of the inauguration ceremony included Sergiy Fedorenko, Advisor to the Prime-Minister of Ukraine and Head of Kyiv Regional Organisation ‘”Nashe Maybutnye”, which implemented the project in v. Litochky, Oleksandr Bezkorovayniy, Head of Department on Environmental Protection, Ministry of the Environment and Natural resources in Ukraine, representatives of rayon and local authorities.
Since 2011 up to now «Every Drop Matters” has been implemented in the framework of UNDP Project “Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme”.
