27-28 August 2012, the roundtable "Paths the Local Self-Governance reform in Ukraine" was held in Sevastopol by the Council of Europe and the Administration of the President of Ukraine. 50 representatives of focal ministries and departments, regional administrations and councils, associations of local governments in Ukraine, Ukrainian and international experts participated in the roundtable.
The event was dedicated to discussion of the Concept of Reform of local government and territorial organization in Ukraine, developed by the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Municipal Economy together with experts from the Council of Europe and the Administration of the President of Ukraine.
Iryna Skaliy, Project Manager of UNDP Project "Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme" took part in the round table.
The participants of the round table adopted recommendations, which appealed to the President of Ukraine with a request after to approve the concept of reforming local government and territorial organization in Ukraine upon appropriate discussion and revision in order to identify trends, mechanisms and terms of forming an effective local government and territorial organization capable to provide quality and accessible public services, establishment of institutions of participatory democracy, meeting the interests of the citizens in all spheres.
