This year the United Nations celebrates the 67th anniversary. During October in the world and Ukraine the «UN4U» awareness campaign was held related to the UN Day (October 24). The campaign included lectures and other activities
at the universities aimed to attract attention of the the students to the work of UN and involve them to research on issues UN is working on - sustainable development, poverty eradication, the maintenance of international peace and security. The meetings with the students were held in 7 municipalities of Ukraine. At the meetings Municipal Project Coordinators and partners of UNDP Project "Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme" presented UN and UNDP activities in Ukraine.
The UN4U campaign was initially launched in 2008 as a way to bring senior UN officials and staff at UN Headquarters in contact with students from schools in the New York City area. It has since been carried out in many countries around the world. The meetings with the students were held in 7 municipalities of Ukraine. At the meetings Municipal Project Coordinators and partners of UNDP Project "Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme" presented UN and UNDP activities in Ukraine.
The students received the latest publications of UNDP Projects.
In Rubizhne partners municipality Iryna Bozhych, Municipal Coordinator of UNDP/MGSDP held a lecture for 46 students of Industrial and Pedagogical School of Sumy National University, enrolled in "Social Work". The latest publications of UNDP Projects on sustainable development, municipal governance and gender were presented to 9 local libraries, universities and organizations.
The best students of Ivano-Frankivsk municipality attended a presentation of Bogdan Bilyk, Director of Economic Development and European Integration department of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, Municipal Project Coordinator UNDP / MGSDP. Ivano-Frankivsk municipality has been a Project`s partner since 2004 and has widely used community-based approach to local development. Since 2004, in partnership with UNDP/MGSDP the city has supported more than 80 community projects for sustainable development worth UAH 10.9 million. The projects benefited 41 000 local residents and revealed outstanding results of partnership between local authorities, entrepreneurs, international donors an communities. After internalising the community-based approach to local development, the City Council together with local communities have implemented 20 projects without the financial support of UNDP/MGSDP.
In response to the invitation to join UN4U campaign to Andriy Kozlov, suggested to make two presentations on UN and UNDP in the Donetsk Region. Andriy Kozlov is a consultant on communication for sustainable development Andrei Kozlov participated in joint activities of UNICEF and NGOs, aimed at improving the education and healthcare of schoolchildren in Zimbabwe. Mr. Kozlov made a presentation to bloggers in Kramatorsk. More information about the lectures in Donetsk and Kramatorsk can be found here.
In Ternopil Olena Zarichna, a coach on the lessons for sustainable development, who conducted trainings on the rational treatment of solid waste and water resources within the UNDP/MGSDP in 2011-2012 held a lecture for pupils of the 10th and 11th classes. In 1 hour the schoolchildren Ternopil school number 24 got information on UN activities in Ukraine and Ternopil Region and attended of the literature exhibition "UN4U", held at the school library. In the course of lecture the children asked where they must study and which languages should they speak in order to work with the UN. Also, they asked if UN and EU unite their efforts to promote peace.
