For bringing the ground level experience of participatory governance in the municipalities to national level, three policy studies were initiated by UNDP/Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme in December 2005 to broaden the knowledge on participatory governance and facilitate the process of improvement in the policy/legal environment on the subject.
In this context the MGSDP consultants namely Mrs.Т.Tymochko, V. Rosihina and V. Sereda, visited the partner municipalities of Ivano-Frankivsk on the 21-23rd of December 2005, and Rivne, Zhytomyr and Novohrad-Volynskyy on the 1-2 of February 2006 to document the appropriate best practices.
In the course of the field visits, the consultants met O.Synyutka, the Deputy Mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, O.Herbeda, the Deputy Mayor of Zhytomyr, M.Borovets, the Mayor of Novohrad-Volynskyy, P.Vakhnyuk, the Head of the Directorate for Foreign Investments and Entrepreneurship of Rivne municipality, as well as the MSU teams, and partner Neighbourhood Organisations/ networks in the respective municipalities.
The experts were familiarized with the mechanisms, approaches and policies applied by MGSDP in the course of the project implementation; collected and documented information on the Programme activities in the partner municipalities and interacted with the local stakeholders to identify barriers, strengths and opportunities to obtain field materials for the policy and legislative proposals.
The findings of the studies will be disseminated among the local/national stakeholders, used for public discussions, and submitted to the concerned authorities for further action.
