On the 21st-22nd of February 2006 Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecka, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, and Ueli Muller, Director of Swiss Agency on Development and Cooperation (SDC), visited Ivano-Frankivsk, the partner municipality of MGSDP.
This review visit of major donors supporting the implementation of MGSDP in Ivano-Frankivsk - UNDP and SDC - was aimed at learning the progress of Programme activities and observing the process of area-based development approach for enhancement of the living quality and strengthening the participatory governance.
The visitors took part in the meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Municipal Sustainable Development Council founded on the 1st of February 2006 as a forum for cooperation of the local government, neighbourhoods, educational institutions, NGO and small businesses.
The representatives of UNDP and SDC also visited the Resource Centre for Sustainable Development and Municipal Support Unit which coordinate the activities of the community development in the city, and interacted with the local communities which developed and implemented the projects on energy efficiency, improving the water supply system, drainage and sanitation. The guests also visited the Secretariat of the School Network “Zdorova Dytyna (“Healthy Child”)”, which coordinate the participatory planning of the development of the educational establishments in the city, and the project site of the network on improving the heating system in one of the schools.
