UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative visited Voznesensk

Voznesensk, Mykolayiv region: Alessandra Tisot, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative visited Voznesensk municipality which in partnership with UNDP during 2006-2013 has achieved significant results in the areas of community-based local development and introducing innovative models of municipal governance.

 

 

Since 2006 Voznesensk municipality has been  one of the most active UNDP municipal partners applying community-based local development approach. 27 local community projects have been  implemented in Voznesensk in the framework of the UNDP Project “Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme” (UNDP/MGSDP) with the financial support of the Swiss Confederation. In 2007 UNDP/MGSDP supported a pilot initiative that introduced the quality management system (QMS) for administrative services in accordance with the ISO 9001:2008. In 2011, the e-document that has enhanced municipal management effectiveness flow was introduced. Established with UNDP/MGSDP’s support in 2012, the Center for Administrative Service Provision (One-Stop-Shop Model) has increased citizens’ satisfaction with the quality of the administrative services provision.

 

During the meeting with the local stakeholders of the Programme, Vitaliy Lukov, Voznesensk City Mayor, spoke of joint achievements. The town official has expressed his interest in advancing the partnership, in particular in the areas of developing the homeowners’ associations, further enhancement of the municipality’s effectiveness in the areas of e-governance, administrative service provision, heath care and others.

 

“More than 30 thousand residents of Voznesensk with a total population of 36.8 thousand people have benefited thanks to different projects and initiatives implemented by the municipality with UNDP/MGSDP support. The majority of the  projects focused on solving the most urgent problems in housing and communal services, repairing public premises, in particular schools and kindergartens, improving water supply and sewage systems, and administrative services provided by the municilpality”, said Vitaliy Lukov.

 

Ms. Tisot thanked the Mayor and his team for their commitment to the community-based local development approach promoted by UNDP and expressed readiness of the UN development programme to serve as a platform for knowledge sharing about the municipality’s experience and for promoting multilateral partnerships for better service delivery at the local level.
