On 26th of May, 2006 the cultural-information festival “No AIDS” was held on the main square of Rivne municipality under support from UNDP/MGSDP. This event was organized by the local NGOs and volunteers together with MGSDP with the main purpose to inform general public and the youth of Rivne about the behavioral risks related with HIV/AIDS transmission, and to educate tolerant attitudes towards people living with this disease.
It was the concluding event of the trainings/ lectures/ thematic talks “It’s Your Choice” and the school contest on the subject of HIV/AIDS held during April-May in about 30 local schools – actual and potential members of the NGO “School Network of Rivne”.
Also, the festival itself included the following activities:
Exhibition of the local HIV-service organizations.
Dissemination of information materials and symbolic red ribbons by the volunteers, and distribution of the awareness materials by the HIV-related service organisations.
Multimedia presentations on the subject by the local resource persons.
Contest on the best graphitti work on the subject of HIV/AIDS.
Conducting the interviews/survey of youth on the level of their current awareness on HIV/AIDS.
Candles happening to commemorate the people who died from HIV/AIDS.
Performances of the local plastic ballet “Yabluko”, break-dancers.
During the festival program the winners of the school contest were announced and the exhibition of their drawings was organized on the stage. The local NGOs “Society Birth” and “Chayka” presented their activities and disseminated information materials among the participants. About 600 citizens including school students visited the event during the day and were provided with different informational leaflets about HIV/AIDS and healthy lifestyle.
