On 20th of June 2006 the UNDP/Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme (MGSDP), represented by Jaysingh Sah, MGSDP International Project manager; UNDP/Governance of HIV/AIDS Project, represented by Vladimir Gordeiko, and EU TACIS Project (EuropeAid/119120/C/SV/UA) “Strengthening Multi-Sectoral Approaches towards HIV/AIDS Prevention among Youth in Ukraine”, represented by Jean-Claude Raveau, Team Leader and Marlena Bouche, Key expert on Training and Health Education, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on possible joint activities on HIV/AIDS prevention among youth.
The need for signing this memorandum was recognized by the parties after having organised the joint activities on HIV/AIDS prevention in Ivano-Frankivsk on May 5-6th this year, in particular the roundtable of practitioners (see photo from the respective event) and public informational-cultural festival “Together against AIDS”.
This Memorandum of Understanding is founded on:
UNDP/MGSDP considerable capacity to deal with local communities inviting them to identify urgent needs and suggest keys to solution of these needs, including raising of people awareness at low cost and with more involvement of people themselves.
UNDP/Governance of HIV/AIDS and its strength to assist regional coordination councils in strategic planning and effective functioning.
EU Project of Strengthening Multi-Sectoral Approaches towards HIV/AIDS Prevention Among Youth in Ukraine focusing on primary prevention education which tackles behavioral change aspect and its great attention to strategies on planning healthy life styles for different sectors.
The overall objective of this MoU is to strengthen the response towards HIV/AIDS epidemic on municipal and oblast level in selected municipalities and to further cooperate on HIV/AIDS prevention activities on local level. This document is meant to lead to the necessity to share, participate and cooperate on HIV/AIDS prevention activities in various parts of Ukraine where the above mentioned projects are active.
