On 26th of June, the Partnership Agreement between UNDP/MGSDP and Kaharlyk Municipality, Kyiv region was signed. The event took place in Kaharlyk municipality’s conference room with presence of the representatives of local authorities, local community members, businesses, schools, kindergartens and public organizations.
The official meeting started with the opening remarks from Mr. M.Boychenko, Kaharlyk Mayor, and Mr. J.Sah, UNDP/MGSDP International Project Manager, and followed by the presentation of Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme. The Mayor expressed his hope that this remarkable event would contribute to the city development and would support local communities in their efforts to improve the living conditions. D-r Sah jointed the expectations of the Mayor and ensured that the Programme efforts would always be with local people. He briefed about the concept of social mobilization used in the MGSDP approach, and the experience of other countries in its replication. Ms. Skaliy presented the strategy of MGSDP, its implementation mechanism and terms of partnership.
The official presentation was followed by the questions from the audience. The people were excited to see that the municipality wanted to support them. They applauded to the Mayor and other local authorities. The Mayor declared once again the willingness of the municipality council to cooperate with the Programme and local communities, and as a justification of the fact he appointed the persons to work in the Municipal Support Unit. The official letter with the names of persons will be sent to the MGSDP office.
“The final decision about joining the Programme came to me after visiting Ivano-Frankivsk municipality, where I had a chance to see what great things could be done with the involvement of ordinary people. Their happy faces are the best proof of the Programme efforts’ necessity on the territory. I believe Kaharlyk Municpality can do a lot, and can really serve as a good demonstration project for all those, who are still in doubt”.
