On the 6th of July, the Association of Ukrainian Cities and Communities together with the Ukrainka Municipality, Kyiv region organized the conference of small cities section of Ukraine. During the conference a special time was devoted to donors’ activities in Ukraine. Different programmes and projects of International Technical Assistance were asked to present their experience and practical support, especially to the small and medium cities of Ukraine. UNDP/ Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme used that chance to present the Programm to the mayors from all over Ukraine. More than 100 city mayors and other municipal authorities were present during the conference.
The interesting fact is that the UNDP/MGSDP was already known to some city authorities. A couple of them either joined Programme activities recently or have been familiarized with it during east-west exchange visits, which were organized jointly by the UNDP/MGSDP and Ukrainian Association of Local and Regional Authorities with the support from Swiss Agency on Development and Cooperation. The Programme was greatly appreciated by these people, who used the chance to add their own experience and vision about the Programme. “It is true, the Programme is working. I have seen it with my own eyes while being in Ivano-Frankivsk as a participant of the East-West exchange visit for the mayors. For example, the local sustainable development project was initiated and implemented by the school teachers and parents, using their own resources and labor”, - said Mr. P.Kozyrev, the Mayor of Ukrainka, Kyiv region, who was actually hosting the visit of the officials of this Association and the mayors of small Ukrainian cities.
His words added great value to the whole presentation made by I. Skaliy, Governance and SD Expert, in which she described the Programme objectives and achievements, its modus operandi, terms of partnership, and shared the experience of different partner municipalities. Now onward the Programme should expect a lot of demand from other cities of Ukraine.
