On 28th November, 2006 the list of partner municipalities of UNDP/ Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme enriched with one more municipality located on the border with Moldova – Mohyliv-Podilsky. Partnership Agreement between UNDP/MGSDP and Mohyliv-Podilsky Municipality was officially signed in the premises of City Council in presence of about 40 local stakeholders including the local council members, citizens, schools, NGOs, and mass media. Though the composition of local deputies differs a lot – 8 political parties are presented there – all the participants voted by consensus for launching partnership with UNDP/MGSDP.

The official event became possible due to the initiatives of local deputy mayors that found out about UNDP/MGSDP and invited its representatives to present the Programme to the local stakeholders and sign Partnership Agreement. A couple of weeks before the Mayor and local deputies have already approved the decision on creation of the Municipal Support Unit and delegated the responsible staff to implement the Programme activities.

The presentation was started by J. Sah, International Project Manager. He briefed about the importance of public private partnership for local sustainable development in light of the declarations made at Johannesburg World Social Summit, and shared the experience of UNDP in Ukraine on community-based development approach. I. Skaliy, Governance and Sustainable Development Expert, presented MSGDP goals, operation strategy and opportunities for future.

After signing the partnership agreement the participants had a possibility to ask questions and interact with MGSDP representatives. Their active involvement in the interaction has showed great interest to Programme activities and committed willingness to improve living quality of their city.
